About R Terrell Rackley
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have a very large family within San Diego County and beyond.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I have worked in event services, financial services, and sales environments prior to resting within my career of nursery-level plant sales to a local retailer. I dream of building upon my life experiences and a health and wellness movement that is growing daily. Another future goal is to drive restorative gardening projects within the county of San Diego and tying both projects together in ways that will be positively impactful holistically.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Never stop growing
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see myself implementing the programs and processes established here within San Diego County throughout parts of the United States within the next 5-10 years.
R Terrell Rackley & Our Community
Q: What are a few of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I love Louisiana Purchase, but I am a huge Felix’ fan
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I am a native San Diegan who has worked within the community and volunteered to serve it since I was a teen.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
The most interesting person I met in the community is a tie for me between Dr. Willie Morrow and my Grandmother, Sadie Mae Rackley. They both seemed to address very complicated things in ways that broke them down in very simplified terms when speaking with me. I thought that was a unique trait. They were also examples of what will, determination, and ingenuity can create.
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
I come from a family with a spirit of entrepreneurship, so all of them. Outside of them are literally dozens of businesses that lined our community and shaped my appreciation.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
We are a resilient community of transient individuals who know we have the best hometown in the United States.
Q: If you could choose anyone alive today and not a relative, with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?
I would like to have lunch with Robert Tambuzzi at Felix’s and discuss ways to introduce freshly grown produce from the community to the restaurant.
For Fun
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
First 48
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I love watching birds in the morning. It’s my morning meditation ritual.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
Not sure if I give 10s to much of anything
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My children inspire me to be better.
Q: What community organizations and/or local nonprofits do you admire/support?
I admire many local non-profits but Blue Heart and Project New Village have a special place in my heart at this time.
Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Your view will be your destination, so stay on point.
Q: What Neighborhood do you live in?
I consider myself a member of two communities. I live in Oceanside, CA. But I grew up in my family home that I still frequent in the neighborhood of Emerald Hills.
What I love about my Neighborhood:
I love the fact that my neighborhood still shows great signs of pride in their neighborhood. It may be small things to some, but pride of ownership and esthetics are more important than we know.
Please describe your ideal San Diego weekend:
An ideal weekend in San Diego would be spending time at the ocean, mountain, desert, or lake. Basically do a few things that you can only do in So. Cal, or even more specifically San Diego.
Q: Finally, what three words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Change is constant
