My name is Georgina Fernanda Dewar but everyone knows me as Gina (easier).
I was born in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, and went to elementary school in Nogales, Arizona. This made me a binational person, where I could get the Seinfeld jokes and of course, I cried with the Mexican soap operas.
I have lived in border communities (Nogales, Mexicali/Calexico, El Paso/Ciudad Juarez, San Diego/Tijuana) all of my life, so I am used to having a life in two countries.
I was born a storyteller, I love hanging out with friends, and watching the sunsets on San Diego’s beaches makes me emotional.

About Gina Dewar

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I have two wonderful kids: Luisa Fernanda Andreu, my daughter, graduated from UCLA a year ago and has plans to continue her career in Law. I am her biggest fan (even though she thinks I’m not haha). I also have my son, Nicolas Andreu, everyone calls him Coco (long story) and he is studying at UC Berkeley. He always makes me smile. And of course, my baby Kiara, my Yorkshire terrier who rules my home.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

I started in my twenties working in manufacturing companies in Mexico, where I learned a lot about how different countries handle business. I also worked as a Pre-K teacher where 4-year-olds taught me that we come here to this earth to have fun. I became a real estate agent in 2011, licensed in Texas, New Mexico, and currently in California. In 2022, I was invited to be one of the co-founders of La Revista Binacional, partnering up with Carlos Flores and Rafael García. The 3 of us are a unique team that brings different backgrounds, experiences, and knowledge to the table. It has been only a year and a half since we started this media platform and we are now in 6 cities, planning to be in at least 15 by the end of 2024. I love what I do so much that it does not feel like work.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

If you are the most intelligent person in the room, change rooms. Oh, and also, work for your dreams and not somebody else’s.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

I see myself with La Revista Binacional being one of the top bilingual platforms in the country. I truly see we can grow nationally and internationally with this project.

Gina Dewar & Our Community

Q: What are a few of your favorite restaurants in our community?

Romescos Mexiterranean Restaurant in Bonita has become our office after 5. I love Mandarin Beijing Chinese food, George’s at the Cove because of the view, Buona Forchetta if you want authentic Italian flavors, Herb and Wood has the best garlic bread rolls, C-Level has the best key lime pie, and…. I could go on forever. My family and I are real foodies and San Diego has great places.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

More than 6 years

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

I could never mention just one person. There are just too many of them.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

I miss Anthony’s by the harbor next to Star of India, but the Fish Market and Belmont Park remind me of when I was young and we came every summer with my parents, my sister, and cousins.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

I love how every neighborhood is unique. As a real estate agent, I have studied each area. Schools, dining, and nightlife. Everyone is beautiful in their own way. Another good thing about San Diego is that you can still go to different places without being stuck in traffic all-day

Q: If you could choose anyone alive today and not a relative, with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?

It would be interesting to sit with Robert Iger, CEO of Disney, and ask him HOW he oversees that gigantic corporation. I would treat him to a Delicious IPA and good food at Stone Brewing at Liberty Station.

For Fun

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

Shawshank Redemption, Steel Magnolias, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. I have been a Friends fan since their pilot episode. I am in love with Yellowstone, Cowboys, and Succession. I like reality cooking shows too.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I hate pickles, I wanted to be a cosmetologist when I was younger, I would’ve been a good actress, I love being alone and I always have trouble telling my left from right (I don’t know why)

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

The University Club atop Symphony Towers, my relationship with my mom and sister, and a club I am in called “The Why Nos”

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

My family, of course, but also, myself. I want to be better today than I was yesterday

Q: What community organizations and/or local nonprofits do you admire/support?

I try to support a lot of non-profits, with either donations, my time, or the magazine. MAAC, Chicano Federation, San Ysidro Health, Community Health Group, Mana SD, This is About Humanity, Promise 2 Kids, and so many beautiful organizations!

Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Believe in yourself, trust the process

Q: What Neighborhood do you live in?

Otay Ranch in Eastlake Chula Vista

What I love about my Neighborhood:

It is nice, clean, and great for families.

Please describe your ideal San Diego weekend:

Watching a sunset at the beach, a walk in Balboa Park, wine in the northern part of the county, and going to a local farmer’s market.

Q: Finally, what three words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

Comfort, love, happiness
