I am the Founder/Operator of San Diego Tequila Tour, established in March 2019. I’ve been in San Diego for just over 23 years now, coming from a small desert town, Trona, CA. It was San Diego State University that brought me here and was involved in the hospitality/tourism industry for several years and have always enjoyed the spirit of agave, in this case, tequila. Being so close to Mexico, San Diego has a great variety of tequila but it wasn’t until after visiting an agave farm that truly opened my eyes to the history, culture, tradition, and process that goes into making and keeping tequila one of the finest and purist spirits available. I have a zeal for meeting new people and with San Diego being a destination spot from across the globe, having experience in tourism, and having visited agave farms, a tequila tasting of premium, additive-free product is something that makes my days complete.

About Nate Gilles
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
San Diego Tequila Tour is a fun experience for birthdays, bachelorette parties, corporate team bonding events, or just something to learn about tequila. One of the best things about it is that it’s educational, fun, and brings people together, creating a bit of unity!
Q: What advice would you give to people?
I tell people that regardless of the success that may come one’s way, never lose focus of what your drive is, and do not let arrogance/pride become traits.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
Finishing up with the 5th year of operation, I am currently in the expansion phase of hosting private events and functions on a larger scale, 25+ people at either a venue of their choice or one that I can arrange, not limited to San Diego County.

Q: If you could choose anyone alive today and not a relative, with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?
It would be Juan Francisco Beckmann Vidal, majority owner of Jose Cuervo, as Jose Cuervo is the oldest and largest active agave farm, covering all various aspects of tequila. I would like the lunch to be at no other place than the Jose Cuervo agave farm!
