San Diego’s Abby Boretto has added a new skill to her already full resume. Well known as a philanthropist, influential community activist, civic volunteer, Mrs. California All-Star United States 2021, and founding contributor to the Silver Sisters Campaign, she now adds Executive Producer to her list. Abby’s first documentary, The Ring and the Mountain, is a unique and fascinating story of a young Marine pilot who has been featured in many media platforms both nationally and internationally. Her desire to understand her father’s promising life and tragic demise is brought to the screen in this beautiful documentary. Told through storytelling and artifacts she weaves a story of the man she never knew.

About Abby Boretto

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

Married to my bestie Tod and super proud mom to Tabatha 24, Lucy 22, and Huey 21

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

The bulk of my working life was dedicated to the hospitality sector, specifically in restaurant and hotel management. Being someone who thrives on interacting with others, this career choice felt like a perfect match for me. However, when I decided to focus more on raising my children, I stepped away from my hospitality career to be more actively involved in their upbringing. This led me to dedicate a significant amount of time to volunteering in various capacities, including in classrooms, schools, and within my community. As my children grew older and became more independent, I transitioned into becoming a full-time volunteer, offering my time and skills to numerous organizations throughout the county.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

KNOW your audience!

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

Reflecting on my journey, I never imagined I would be in the position I find myself in today if you had asked me even just five years ago. However, what I can confidently affirm is that my path has been filled with excitement and anticipation because I am constantly exploring new and diverse opportunities.

Q: What are a few of your favorite restaurants in our community?

I love the Brigantine at any location in our county.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

I’ve been in San Diego for 19 years

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

When I pass Aubrey Park in Poway. It brings me back to the many wonderful years spent watching my daughter Lucy play softball!

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

One of the wonderful aspects of the area where I reside is the abundance of natural beauty that surrounds it. Despite being situated within a city, there’s a distinct rural ambiance that adds to its charm. I find it incredibly appealing that this locale offers such a diverse range of amenities and attractions that I seldom feel the need to venture elsewhere.

Q: If you could choose anyone alive today and not a relative, with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?

I’ll get back to you……:)

For Fun

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

While I don’t have a single favorite show or movie, I’m drawn to genres that offer intrigue, suspense, and a touch of darkness. Crime, thriller, mystery, and stories involving murder and mayhem captivate my interest and keep me engaged.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I am a HOMEBODY!

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

Throughout my journey, I’ve had the privilege of encountering numerous individuals who have profoundly influenced my personal growth. Each of them has left an indelible mark on my life, and it would be impossible for me to single out just one. I view these encounters as seasons and reasons, each contributing uniquely to my development and shaping the person I am today!

Q: What community organizations and/or local nonprofits do you admire/support?

Our county is blessed with numerous deserving organizations and non-profits that truly make a difference. One of the initiatives I’m deeply passionate about is the Friends of Poway Senior Center. I proudly serve as a member of the Board of Directors and actively contribute to ReRuns Resale Shoppe, one of our key fundraising endeavors.

Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Listen to hear and understand, not to respond.

Q: What Neighborhood do you live in?

If I tell you everyone will want to live here:)

What I love about my Neighborhood:

My neighborhood is full of wonderful people and we know that we can rely on each other in times of need and celebration!

Please describe your ideal San Diego weekend:

It’s 75 and sunny. I’m the only one on the road and can pull right up to any parking space and park….. repeat!!!

Q: Finally, what three words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

Mine, Sanctuary, Comfortable
