Meet Chef Key Locke, a seasoned and innovative vegan chef, renowned for crafting delectable plant-based creations that redefine culinary boundaries. Born on July 11 in vibrant Culver City, California, Chef Key Locke’s travels throughout her childhood immersed her in different cultures across California and the Midwest. She lived in cities such as Carson, Compton, Cudahy, L.A., Montebello, “The Valley,” San Diego, Oakland County, and the Detroit metro area—experiences that hint at her inspirations and her love for cuisines similar to modern street foods from various cultures.
Born and raised in Southern California, Chef Key Locke draws inspiration from her diverse cultural experiences and favorite cuisines. Her culinary journey began at her record store and community space, Lyrics on Vinyl, in Pontiac, Michigan, where she combined her love of music and food to create a unique culinary venture. Chef Key Locke gained recognition as a trailblazer in the vegan food scene when she hosted Taco Tuesdays at Menagerie Kitchen. This success led to the establishment of a second location and the founding of Phat Vgan in Detroit, making history as one of the city’s pioneering vegan chefs.
