I am a developer of medical facilities in my Makena Medical Buildings Company and a builder of many San Diego projects. I am current Chairman of the San Diego County Planning Commission. I do work in resolving construction issue thru another of my companies Makena Consulting. I am married to Nancy Barnhart, and we have two daughters and four grandchildren. Former San Diego based Board positions include the Del Mar Fair Board, QUALCOMM Stadium Board and the San Diego Sports Council. I am past President of AGC of America and past Chairmen of the California State Contractors License Board.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

Nancy and I have been married 56 years this September. Our Daughter Tami and her husband West manage the day-to-day operations of the construction company. My other daughter Tara is a professor at Chapman University.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

I love building facilities that provide community benefit.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

For the youth, get on with life. Finding out what you like to do and what you do well is the key to success. Never work for money. If you are good at what you do, the money financial sucess will follow.wijust work

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

At my age I hope to be in good health and still contributing to San Diego.

Nancy and I watch series that stream. Our favorites are Yellowstone, 1883, 1923, Homeland, The Americans, Seal Team

That I love history

Nothing is perfect. Nothing is either as good or bad as when you first see it or hear it.

Spiritual guidance.

I support educational and medical directed nonprofits. I am a supporter of the Committee of 100 who is working to restore Balboa Park and the Suto Museum

Never underestimated the impact of a resounding NO.
