Doug is currently CEO of the San Diego Blood Bank (SDBB). SDBB provides San Diego, Orange, and Los Angeles County hospitals with a wide range of blood products and testing services, including cord blood banking. Doug joined SDBB in 2000 and has served as Director of Information Systems, Chief Information Officer, Chief Technology Officer, Chief Security Officer, and Chief Operating Officer before being appointed as CEO by SDBB’s Board of Directors in 2022.
Doug is committed to the SDBB’s lifesaving mission and dedicated staff. He currently serves as a Board member for Blood Centers of America, Blood Centers of California, and the National Blood Collaborative. Doug enjoys visiting national parks and volunteers as a puppy raiser for Canine Companions.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

Married to my wonderful wife for 31 years. We have three children ages 27, 21, and 14. We have 2 dogs and 2 cats and raise service dogs – so we have lots of animals around.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

Been at the San Diego Blood Bank for 23 years and I love working with our incredible donors, staff, and volunteers.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

Do what you love.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

I see myself continuing to save lives with the San Diego Bood Bank.

Friendly, small-town feel.

Malcolm Gladwell. He can converse on so many interesting topics. Somewhere on the waterfront.

The following quote: “A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove… but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child.”
