About Jonathan Jaboro

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

Jonathan is married to Jessica, and they have three sons; Xander, Jax, and Levi

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

What I love most about what I do is a very easy question to answer. Most people may view the funeral and cemetery industry as a very morbid industry, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I’m able to meet with someone during one of the most difficult times of their life and help them make that difficult time a little bit easier. I can’t tell you the number of people who walk into my office in tears and walk out with a smile and a sense of relief. I wake up every single day eager to get to work so I can do all that I can to brighten up someone else’s day. In turn, I go home at the end of the day with a feeling that’s totally indescribable. It truly is a self-gratifying occupation that is rewarding for both the heart and the soul. I couldn’t be more blessed to serve our community.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

Life is truly a beautiful thing, and the relationships we establish in life are just as important to cherish. Don’t let the little things in life distract you from seeing what is most important in life: Time. Time slips away, and the amount we have here in this world is unknown, so make it count! Give back, help someone, love yourself, love life, and love the amazing people in our community. Only then will you find true happiness.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

There isn’t any other industry I could see myself working in. I’ve found my calling.

Jonathan Jaboro & Our Community

Q: What are a few of your favorite restaurants in our community?

I love all types of food. If I had to narrow it down to a few different categories, my favorites would be Tabu Sushi, Marechiaro’s, Crafted Greens, and Sahara.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

I’ve worked in San Diego for the majority of my life.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

The most interesting person I’ve met in San Diego would have to be an unnamed stranger. I was 16 years old and working three jobs to support my disabled father and family. I was taking a break outside of a local convenience store when a homeless man approached me. I would frequently see him walking around asking for cigarettes, so when he approached me, I immediately told him that I didn’t have a cigarette to offer him. He responded by telling me that he didn’t want one. He said that he always sees me working here and that today, something didn’t seem right. He told me that if I needed someone to speak with that, he had no friends and no one to share my troubles with. My secrets would be safe with him…. It was at this moment in my life that I learned not to judge anyone and always to remain kind and compassionate. This was a man who clearly had more troubles than me, yet he took the time to show me care and compassion.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

There is no greater feeling than to help someone through a difficult time in their life. Working in the funeral industry is such a bittersweet feeling. You’re sad because your heart goes out to the grieving families that you serve, and yet you’re happy because you are able to help put a smile on their faces by helping them through a difficult time. I’d have to say local funeral homes.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

There are so many good people in our community, but we’re so blinded by all the bad things we hear and see in the media that it forces these amazing people into hiding. I love how our community cares and comes together when the situation warrants it.

Q: If you could choose anyone alive today and not a relative, with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?

I would love to have lunch with Darren Hardy. Darren is a very inspirational writer. After reading “Compound Effect” I immediately noticed a change in my mindset and my life. I’d meet him anywhere because it would be less about feeding my stomach and more about feeding my brain.
