About Sandy Fowler

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I am the oldest and shortest in my family! I have 2 brothers, a mom, and a husband. My husband Richard and I have been married for 32 years.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

I started as an artist when I was 2 years old with scribbles. Painting is my favorite art to do because it is relaxing. I learned how to paint with acrylics at The Arc 12 years ago! I imagine a blank piece of paper and then I outline with pencil first then paint using acrylics because you can cover your mistakes. Every time I go to a craft store, I have to get more acrylics.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

Give it a try! You never know if you can do it until you try.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

I want to still be coming to The Arc, and be an even better artist than I am now. I am an eager beaver to learn everything and anything. Art is my favorite thing to learn about. I work hard at all the artwork I make.

Sandy Fowler & Our Community

Dennys! I love the Cobb salad.

For Fun

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

The sound of music! I first saw it when I was 5 years old, my dad took me because my brothers were too young. We had special candy and popcorn.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I am known as a prayer warrior at church. I am an encourager to my church leaders. I’ve been going for 41 years now.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

God inspires me! There is no art talent on my dad’s side or mom’s side of the family. It is a godly gift!

Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Don’t give up! I learned that by coming to The Arc and also my mom.

Please describe your ideal San Diego weekend:

On the weekends, I like to hang out with my husband and make phone calls to encourage people. I also like to go out to lunch with my husband and see how I can encourage him. I have a date night with my husband every Friday night, that’s why we’ve been married so long. We are always there for each other.
