My name is Yasmin, and I am also known as Yasi, or soon enough hopefully, YA-Z! I was born in Yokosuka Naval Base in December 24, 2005 because my dad was stationed there in the Navy. At three (3) years old, I began to sing. In the years that came, I honed my ability to what it is now, and I am glad to say I sing for multiple events in the community. It’s been a joy to have sang all my life, and even moreso now that I am able to sing for so many different events.

About Yasmin Serrano

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I have a family of four (4) consisting of my mom, my dad, and my younger brother. Both my mom and my dad work at North Island Naval Base as civilian workers and my dad is a veteran.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

Currently, I do not have a solid career. However, I do consider my singing as my intro to it. What I love most is that I can touch the hearts of so many people out there and that I can make my family and friends proud.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

No matter what your dreams are, whether small or large, strive to achieve them. You could end up inspiring those around you and give them the boost they need.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

Hopefully, on the stage of my very own concert. But if not that, then possibly in a studio, composing and/or recording my own music.

Yasmin Serrano & Our Community

Q: What are a few of your favorite restaurants in our community?

At Chula Vista Mall, I like to go to a Mexican restaurant called Las Tres Catrinas. I also like Denny’s and sometimes, for a little once-in-a-while choice, Cheesecake Factory or Chopstix.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

I have lived in National City since 2012. That’s 12 years! However, I have been living in San Diego County since around 3 years of age. 15 years total!

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

Many of the friends I’ve met have been such interesting people, such as Brett and Sarah Davis, owners of the IQ Podcast, and Larry “Mr. Entertainment” Delrose. Of course, I have my own little group of friends who can also be interesting in their own way as well.

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

iHop. I have been going since I was a young child, and a few years ago, my dad pointed out a waitress who has been working since those early days of my life. It’s very interesting yet also endearing to know that she has seen both my brothers and me grow up over the years.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

There are so many nice and friendly people. I love interacting with everyone. It’s so fun to get to know more people here! Everyone is interesting and unique in their own way.

Q: If you could choose anyone alive today and not a relative, with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?

I would gladly have lunch with any of my friends! I know any of them are always up for a meal with me, or just to hang out. I would pick Denny’s because I quite enjoy dining there and I also like their oven-baked lasagna.

For Fun

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

I have been pretty hooked to Sonic Prime recently (so sad it ended), but I also enjoy the show Invincible.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

When it comes to anything that piques my interest enough, I can get highly obsessive and focused on it, so much so that it becomes all I want to learn about, do, or even buy.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

My living experience. I have learned so much and met so many wonderful people. I even know how to read music and play instruments. It’s awesome!

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

All the people who do good in the world. And of course, my family and friends.

Q: What community organizations and/or local nonprofits do you admire/support?

National City Chamber of Commerce Salute to Navy, Fish for Life Foundation, and American Legion.

Q: What Neighborhood do you live in?

National City.

What I love about my Neighborhood:

I love how local everything is. I can take a walk and I’m already at my destination. The neighbors are friendly and quiet, and my school is close by which is great.

Please describe your ideal San Diego weekend:

Relaxing at home or going out with friends and/or family.

Q: Finally, what three words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

Live, Laugh, and Love. Just like all those decorations you would see around a house.
