Self-Publishing Strategist Sandi Masori developed her book expertise organically by first writing her own book to promote the business she had at the time. That book led her to make over 100 TV appearances, (including The Today Show), got her booked on stages as a speaker, and ultimately brought in better clients who were excited to spend more money to work with a celebrity author.

Once Sandi wrote her first book, other experts started asking her to help them with theirs as well. What began as a side gig, quickly grew into a full-time business and to date, Sandi has helped hundreds of authors self-publish their business authority or legacy books. Sandi is passionate about helping people achieve their publishing dreams.

When Sandi is not writing books, or coaching others to write and publish theirs, she produces Destination Craftland, and until recently ran Balloon Utopia (and Market With Balloons)- a San Diego-based balloon decor and entertainment company. She also coaches and mentors marketing consultants and small business owners.

Masori also runs a popular YouTube channel (Sandi Masori Presents), where she teaches DIY crafts, explores food and culture and creates other interesting videos. She also is one of the restaurant and theater reviewers for San Diego Jewish World.

In the precious spare time that she has between juggling those interests, Sandi likes to hang out with her family, read books, see movies, travel, and hunt for the best Sushi in town.

About Sandi Masori

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I’m a single mom with two amazing boys, ages 16 and 22. My oldest just graduated from UC Berkeley with a degree in psych, and my youngest is a junior in high school.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

I love helping authors realize their dreams. My favorite moment is when an author holds their book for the very first time and sees the fruits of their hard labor. It’s a very emotional moment, and I try to encourage them to capture it on video.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

When you dive in before you’re ready, you’ll always find a way to tread water and figure it out.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

Married to an amazing man (I’m ready to meet him universe!), and traveling the world, helping authors publish their books and exploring all the cultures.

Sandi Masori & Our Community

Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants in our community?

I love ethnic food, so my fave restaurants tend to be in the Asian areas, especially the Convoy district. I’m loving Ichifuji for Omakase sushi right now. I love Phoung Troung for Vietnamese, Koon Thai for Thai, Spicy City for Chinese, Woomiak for Korean, and Izakaya Sakura for Japanese. In general, I prefer restaurants that are frequented by the ethnicity that matches the food. That’s how you know it’s a good one.

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

I’m a San Diego native. I have left for college and living around the world, but I’ve been back for the last 23 years and am pretty rooted in the community now.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

I’m blown away by Jenny and Jeffrey from Izola Bakery. They started making sourdough during the pandemic, turned it into a business, and recently were named #1 bakery in the US. Talk about mastering something new and rocking it!!!

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

Farrell’s ice cream parlor. I’m really sad it’s no longer at Fashion Valley the way it was when I was a kid. We did almost every birthday there, and I wish I could take my kids there too.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

We have the internationalism of Los Angeles or New York but not the traffic (yet). I love that pretty much anything is just about 20 min away. I love that we also tend to be open and less jaded than people in other big cities – we’re a big city with a small city feel.

Q: If you could choose anyone alive today and not a relative, with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would y’all meet for this lunch?

Oooohhhh so many choices. I think it would be either Oprah or Drew Barrymore. Oprah because… well Oprah, and Drew Barrymore because she just seems like she’s a lot of fun and could become a real friend.

For Fun

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

My favorite movie of all time is Legally Blonde. It’s got a fun, quirky female lead, who discovers she doesn’t have to get the guy to win; she gets a better guy, gets the job, and comes out on top. Not only that, but the happy ending is made even happier with the “And then what” epilogue. Basically, that’s everything I need in a movie or show – some laughs, a happy ending, and the “and then what.” 🙂

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

Oh gosh, I’m ADHD, so if something goes through my head, it probably comes right out my mouth; I don’t know if there’s much that people don’t know about me.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

Well, I don’t want them to get a big head, but my kids. I have pretty awesome kids, and I’m really proud to be their mom.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

My family – both my kids and my parents help me be better. I’m also in many entrepreneur groups that inspire me to improve and keep striving for more.

Q: Finally, what three words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

Family, coziness, love
