Adriana “Adri” Brunner is a native of Medellín, Colombia. She is the Director of Business Development for MyPoint Credit Union. Adri has over 26 years of experience in banking, business development, marketing, PR, and partnership development.

She has championed business development, community relations, and partnership development for the credit union during the last 16 years. During her career, she has offered over 600 financial literacy workshops in English/Spanish and has worked closely with the small business community through education, activism, and leadership. She holds a B.S in Economics, Master’s in Strategic Management, and a Master’s in International Finances from Colombian Universities. She also holds an MBA with a Minor in Marketing and graduate certifications in communications, social media, and clean energy.

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I live in North County with my hubby, my daughter, and four pets (2 cats and 2 dogs)

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

What I love the most is to give. I am very passionate about financial literacy, empowering individuals, and advocating for small businesses

Q: What advice would you give to people?

I always tell them that the most important resource is information because having the knowledge will allow us to make informed decisions.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

I see myself as a leader in the community, always doing the right thing, supporting and helping. I never ask for anything back. I only want for San Diegans to do great, and we all advance together,

Q: What are a few of your favorite restaurants in our community?

I love Colombian Food. I highly recommend Antojitos Colombianos, Yipao Coffee (Real Colombian coffee), and California Burrito (Best Flautas!)

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

For 21 years and 16 of those at MyPoint Credit Union

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

I will say, that my good friend, Claudia Rempel – Operations and Community Relations Manager for AMR.  She is resilient, authentic, and President of MANA de San Diego

Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?

I love the City Heights community. The best food in town, real food from Vietnam, Cambodia, and wonderful Coffee shops (GEM Coffee and Asmara).

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

I love that San Diego is a City of non-profits, a city of GIVING. I work with many of them.

Q: If you could choose anyone alive today and not a relative, with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?

I want to have lunch with Eva Longoria. The Eva Longoria Foundation has provided so many resources and help to Latina-owned businesses. She is very humble about her work as a philanthropist but has provided real solutions to our small businesses.

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

Love “Time Ministry”,el Ministerio de El Tiempo (a TV series from Spain) that presents the history of the former Spanish colonies and Spain through time travel

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I am a “nerd at heart”. I love economics, data, history and love to read medical journals (medical research is just so amazing)

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

My husband for being my biggest advocate and supporter. He keeps me on my toes. Love you, Steve.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

My daughter, because she is the future, and my hard work is for her. I want her to know that you need to live with good values and that giving back is imperative.

Q: What community organizations and/or local nonprofits do you admire/support?

I support so many and I am in the board/ advisory/committees for a lot of them: MANA de North County, National Latina Business Women Association, North San Diego Business Chamber, San Diego Colombian Chamber of Commerce, San Diego Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, San Diego Regional East County Chamber of Commerce, Filipino American Chamber of Commerce of Greater San Diego, San Diego Equality Business Association, Kim Center for Social Balance, San Diego and Imperial’s Women’s Business Center, San Ysidro Philanthropy Leadership Council and Burnham Center for Community Advancement

Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Do the right thing. Never sacrifice your values for a job or for economic reasons. This is the main reason that I work at MyPoint Credit; my values align with the credit union.

Q: What Neighborhood do you live in?

I live North of Escondido, close to the Welk Resort

What I love about my Neighborhood:

I love that it is quiet. I am in the country but close to the city. I love to hear animal sounds.

Please describe your ideal San Diego weekend:

A good coffee, talking with my daughter somewhere, and just to appreciating the great weather. I also love to go and watch the San Diego Seals (Lacrosse)
