My name is Chelsea Van Voorhis. I am a Bay Area native but have lived in San Diego on an off since 2007. I am a freelance publicist working with a range of clients. I love spending time with family, friends, traveling, all things pop culture, fashion, wellness, movies, reading, and being at the beach.
About Chelsea Van Voorhis
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I have been married to my husband, Jimmy, for 7 years. We met in Pacific Beach at Bar West (throwback, IYKYK) in 2010. We now have two kids, a three year old son named Coast and a daughter named Seven that was born late August 2023.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I got my start right here in San Diego, working as a part-time writer for KUSI’s Good Morning San Diego show. From there, I moved to Redding to work as an on-air reporter for ABC’s KRCR. After a few years, I decided to leave the news industry and move to San Francisco (I am a Bay Area native), taking a job at OutCast Agency, a communications company that works with some of the top companies and brands (Facebook, Amazon, Lyft, Pinterest, Etsy, etc.). From there, I got a job at HBO, which was a dream at the time, to break into the Entertainment business. Over the next 7 years, I worked on both the Regional PR and Special Events teams. In my roles, I worked on the development, execution, and overall management for red-carpet premieres and events + regional PR and events for HBO and HBO Max programming (Series, Films, Documentaries, Sports, etc.) including EUPHORIA, CURB YOUR ENTHUSIASM, INSECURE, BIG LITTLE LIES, BARRY, and HARD KNOCKS, among several others. I left HBO almost 2 years ago and launched my own company, cvv productions, where I work as a freelance publicist and event producer. My clients range from film Directors I worked with while at HBO, film festivals (I work with Coronado Island Film Festival year-round) to Wet Noses Rescue and other consumer or tech based companies on project based basis.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Comparison is the thief of joy. Stay focused on your own path. There’s enough room for everyone to succeed.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I see myself with 1 or 2 more children, still living in San Diego with my amazing husband. Continuing to help my clients grow their brands. Traveling the world. Invested in another business or company. Content and happy.
Chelsea Van Voorhis & Our Community
Q: What are a few of your favorite restaurants in our community?
Catania, Camino Rivera, Lorna’s Italian Kitchen, and Javier’s
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I went to San Diego State, so I lived here for 4.5 years before I reluctantly moved away in late 2011 for my first full-time job after college. From there, I moved around the state a bit for various jobs, then moved back to San Diego in early 2019.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
I haven’t met him, but an interesting person from our community whom I hope to meet one day is Chervin Jafarieh, founder of the San Diego-based company Cymbiotika. His perspective on wellness, the world, and life overall is inspiring, and we are hooked on Cymbiotika products in our house.
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
Rigoberto’s in Pacific Beach.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
My favorite thing about San Diego is you can comfortably enjoy being outdoors year-round and never have to worry about layering and of course, getting to see the ocean every day.
Q: If you could choose anyone alive today and not a relative, with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?
It would definitely be with San Diego native Kris Jenner because she is a PR and overall business mastermind. We would definitely meet for cocktails and a fabulous dinner at the iconic La Valencia Hotel, which she frequents when she is in town.
For Fun
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
Movies: I love movies, so it’s hard to narrow it down. But some top picks would be Wedding Crashers, Silver Linings Playbook, Avatar, Forces of Nature, any Adam Sandler movie TV Shows: Sex and the City, Euphoria, The Sopranos, Breaking Bad, and The Kardashians
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I can’t think of anything. I’m generally an open book.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
A weekend at the Beverly Hills Hotel.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My husband and kids.
Q: What community organizations and/or local nonprofits do you admire/support?
Wet Noses Rescue – they do amazing work rescuing dogs and cats. What truly sets them apart is their ability to work with sick, abandoned, neglected, and abused dogs and cats. Many rescues don’t want to take in those animals as they require a lot more work and are far more expensive to care for, but the women of Wet Noses truly put their heart and soul into bringing some of these animals back to life.
Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?
Be confident; follow your gut. Don’t be afraid to hold your ground.
Q: What Neighborhood do you live in?
University City
What I love about my Neighborhood:
Convenience! We are just over the hill from La Jolla Shores and the Village, close to freeways, and generally 15 minutes from most parts of San Diego.
Please describe your ideal San Diego weekend:
Have a lazy morning at home with my family, take a long walk, and then head to the beach for the day with friends!
Q: Finally, what three words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Happy, cozy, love.
