I like to say that i’m a jack of all trades and a master of FUN! I was born and raised in Quebec, and migrated to California at age 21, on a quest to expand my musical horizon & pursue my passion for surfing. I have been writing music for over 10 years and it’s been a life-long dream of mine to travel the world through the lens of music.

Here’s my “Long Story Short” :

My name is David Pozay and I’m 29 years young. I grew up in Blainville, a town in the suburbs of Montreal, Quebec. I now live in Ocean Beach, San Diego.

Amongst many things, I would qualify myself as a singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, surfer, skier & adventurer…

I would say that over everything, I am a very passionate human being, who approaches everything he does with a lion’s heart. I always loved pushing my limits to the extreme and there’s always been a fire in me to live life to the fullest.

I picked up my brother’s guitar at the age of 14 and instantly fell in love with it. I started performing and song-writing when I was 18 and music has not left me since.

In 2016, my life took a major turn when I discovered surfing and decided to leave my hometown to explore the world. I had no plan and a very (VERY) short budget, but a lot of faith in myself. It was the best decision of my life.

It pushed me into so many different directions. In my travels, I discovered busking (street performing) & stumbled upon a concept that would give a whole new meaning to my existence. In 2017 “Music with a View” was born.

I spent the following years, chasing inspiration, waves, playing music on the street, and filming over 50 videos in different nature locations across North & Central America.

In 2020, I finally settled down in San Diego and met some amazing musicians with who I eventually accomplished one of my wildest dream : to form a band. “Half Hour Late” was eventually born, and in September of 2021, we got asked to play our first official show at in Ocean Beach. One thing led to another, and I eventually decided to fully dedicate myself to the band. I started officially managing Half Hour Late at the beginning of 2022 and we proceeded to release an album, go on tour, and sell out our local venues. In our first few years as a band, we have accomplished more than I could’ve ever imagined. It’s been such an incredible journey and I am so proud to see the fruits of our labor.

Life in San Diego has been abundant and full of surprises; and I feel blessed to have landed in such a colorful and supportive community. I am grateful for all the amazing opportunities and experiences life has sent my way and I look forward to unfolding the next chapter!!

About David Pozay

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I grew up with 3 siblings and two loving parents. My family is very dear to my heart, and even tho we now live 3000 miles away from each other, we keep in very close contact (thanks to technology). I’m also an uncle of 4 beautiful kids who are growing up way too fast. Quite frankly, it’s hard to be away from my family; and moving to SD was one of the most difficult, yet easy decision to make for me… I had tons of friends back in Quebec and even through my years of traveling, I never really thought I would leave for good; but sometimes you gotta follow your heart!

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

I’ve never really had a “career”. My dad used to tell me that the only thing I had in mind was to have fun. I guess that’s what I’m good at, and I feel really blessed to have the opportunity to make a living doing one of the things i love most : music. Before moving here, I had a couple jobs in sales and I was also a skier. I never made money from my skiing but i definitely treated it like it was my job lol. I quit school at age 19 (right before University) to pursue music; but in the truth of it, i blame my obsession for skiing for making me drop out.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

One of the oldest in the book. Chose your hard, do what you love, love what you do & most importantly HAVE FUN and don’t take yourself too seriously cause one day you’ll die and be forgotten; so might as well enjoy the time your given.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

I see myself happy and healthy… Traveling the world, rocking out, playing music, writing songs, recording and releasing music; oh, and surfing!!! Till my arms fall off!

David Pozay & Our Community

Q: What are a few of your favorite restaurants in our community?

Food in SD is so good everywhere. To be honest, I mostly cook at home, but when I go out to eat, I got out in OB! Depending on my mood, here are my go-to’s… : For a healthy lunch, I go to “It’s RAW poke”; For the best fish in town I go to “Bluewater Seafood OB”; When I feel naughty and I want some pizza, I go to “Ellie’s” (fancier, yet affordable) or “Luigi’s” (Classic ‘Za & late night); Can’t forget the burritos at “Mikes” and the plates at “Chicken Over Rice”

Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?

I first came to San Diego almost 10 years ago, but I have lived and worked here full time for a little over 5 years.

Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?

Kip on Voltaire. RIP.

Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?

San Diego feels like a small town in a big city and I LOVE THAT. I’ve never been too attracted to city living and i don’t think i could do it anywhere else. The community feels tight knit, people are very friendly, welcoming and it’s such a hub for creatives.

Q: If you could choose anyone alive today and not a relative, with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?

That’s a tough one… I would probably have lunch with Jack Johnson and ask him to if he wants to eat a cliff bar at the Cliffs and go out for a surf!

For Fun

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

“McConkey” (2013) is a movie that changed my life. Favorite TV show would probably be “La Casa de Papel”

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

I can put my foot behind my head.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

A good 4 to 6ft glassy day

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

People who use their voice to help the world be a better place & mostly people who do acts of selflessness.

Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

Life’s too short to worry about what others think of you.

Q: What Neighborhood do you live in?

I live in Ocean Beach

Q: Finally, what three words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

Home is where the heart is; and that’s not necessarily only one place!
