About Ted Williams
Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.
I grew up in the Silicon Valley outside of San Francisco, my father worked in the tech industry there and my mother was a stay at home mom. We moved to San Diego when I was 16 before my senior year of high school.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?
I attended CSU-San Marcos to study theater then studied business at UCLA before becoming an entrepreneur and opening my business in North County. I love bringing gamers together to create a vibrant and supportive community through the tournaments and social activity of Ted’s World of Arcade.
Q: What advice would you give to people?
Follow your passion and do what you love. I love video games and entertaining people, I never see running my business as a job.
Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?
I am opening my first business at the end of the summer. It is a video game business that combines a physical gaming location with a vibrant social media community on Twitch, YouTube and TikTok. I would love to have a larger presence in San Diego and on the global gaming scene in 5 to 10 years.
Ted Williams & Our Community
Q: What are a few of your favorite restaurants in our community?
I love Kiin Thai at the Del Mar Skydeck, and the ballpark fare at Petco Park. I love cheese steaks from Gaglione Bros, and pizza from Pizza Port.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
I moved to San Diego in 2019 for my senior year of high school at Del Norte in San Diego. Ted’s World of Arcade is currently under construction and will be open later this summer.
Q: Who is the most interesting person you’ve met here in our community?
I am an avid Padres fan, my family has season tickets and I go often with my dad. I was able to meet Joe Musgrove and love the fact that he is a hometown kid who is now back in San Diego amongst his childhood family and friends.
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
The Tenth Avenue Arts Center is my favorite spot for local theater in San Diego. I love the history of the theater, I think it might be haunted! I also love the plays that they put on there, I go there as often as I can.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
Growing up in Northern California, I love the endless beaches and amazing weather in San Diego. As a kid, I lived less than 10 minutes from San Francisco Bay but it took 2 hours to drive to an actual beach. San Diego truly is a special place that is unlike anywhere else that I have been.
Q: If you could choose anyone alive today and not a relative, with whom would you love to have lunch? Why? And where locally would you meet for this lunch?
My name is Ted Williams, my dad is a big baseball fan. It was a huge surprise when I moved to San Diego to find Ted Williams Parkway and all the history about him. I would love to meet him at Hodad’s in Ocean Beach for lunch to hear what he thinks about present day San Diego and to see if he thinks he was actually a better hitter than Tony Gwynn.
For Fun
Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?
I am a huge movie enthusiast, I have seen over 5000 movies since 2014 and I loved them all.
Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
I have seen a baseball game at every major league baseball park in the United States and Canada. It took over 10 years of my childhood but it was an amazing experience to visit all of the cities to meet people, learn the local history and try local foods. I once had a cinnamon roll in Texas that was bigger than my head.
Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?
VG’s Donuts in Cardiff-By-the-Sea – I waited in massive lines during the pandemic for a glazed donut. VG makes the best.
Q: Who inspires you to be better?
My parents. They worked hard every day of my life to make sure I had the best opportunities. I hope to make them proud.
Q: Finally, what three words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?
Family , Love , Happiness
