I’m a Mama With A Mission! I’m a 3-time veteran of the delivery room with a passion for babies and a deep dedication to my work as a birth doula and childbirth educator. As the founder of Mindful Mama Childbirth, I provide “bump-to-baby” in-person and virtual doula support, along with confidence-building education, to empower first-time mothers. My goal is to give them the knowledge, support, and confidence they need for a safer, healthier, and less complicated hospital birth—one with less fear, anxiety, and overwhelm. My path to this was a bit bumpy. After my first baby, I felt unprepared for the end of pregnancy, the birth itself, and those early months with my newborn. I knew birth could—and should—be better. Like many moms, I wished I had known more. By the time I had my third, I had learned a lot, but still had so much more to discover. With each pregnancy and the hundreds of births I’ve supported, I found my voice, grew stronger, and became more mindful. Now, I help thousands of mamas do the same. Motherhood is my calling, where my heart, skills, and the world’s needs come together. As my own kids grow, I’m deeply grateful to support the next generation of women on their journeys into motherhood.

About Alisa Beyer

Q: Please tell us a little bit about your family.

I have three children, all of whom attended Cathedral Catholic High School in Del Mar. My oldest, Max, graduated from the University of San Diego (USD). My daughter, Megan, is currently completing her nursing degree at California Baptist University in Riverside. My youngest, Ben, is a freshman at LSU in Baton Rouge.

Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career. What do you love most about what you do?

I guess you could say I’ve been making payroll and making babies for over two decades, bridging business and birth. With 20 years of experience at the intersection of business strategy and maternal health, I’ve led strategic initiatives for over 200 companies worldwide, ranging from innovative startups to global industry leaders. But when I transitioned from the boardroom to the birthroom, I knew I had finally found my true purpose and calling.

Q: What advice would you give to people?

My advice for new mamas: This is it—take it all in and enjoy every moment. I always say I “kidnapped” my kids each summer just to be with them, and I’m so grateful I did. We had summers full of sand, sleeping in, pancakes, and snuggles. Motherhood is not just for the babies—it’s for you too. So, savor the magic of it all.

Q: Where do you see yourself in 5 to 10 years?

I hope to be snuggling with a bunch of grandkids, spending time in the mountains of Tahoe where my heart lives, and, hopefully, still helping many mamas bring their babies into this world!

For Fun

Q: What is one of your favorite movies? TV shows?

My favorite movies? Out of Africa and Under the Tuscan Sun—why? No idea. I just love them both deeply, like a cozy blanket I can’t let go of. Maybe it’s the sweeping landscapes, the fabulous accents, or the fact that both movies make me think I can somehow live in a villa in Italy… someday.

Q: (Even for friends or family), what is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?

Well, I’m really just a small-town country girl from Pennsylvania who dreams of winning a blue ribbon for my homemade jelly. I’ve got a serious love for country fairs—and the food.

Q: What would you rate a 10 out of 10?

A hot cup of coffee (pour-over, of course), my dog by my side, and being all bundled up for a walk in the woods that leads to the lake to watch the sunrise. Pure perfection.

Q: Who inspires you to be better?

It might sound corny, but my kids inspire me. I work hard to be the woman they can be proud of—someone who gets back up when knocked down, stays positive no matter what, is kind to everyone, and gives them unconditional love and support.

Q: What community organizations and/or local nonprofits do you admire/support?

Most of what I do revolves around supporting pregnancy and new mothers. I volunteer with organizations like Operation Doula to serve our military families, and the UC Milk Bank, which provides donor breast milk to babies in the NICU. There are also many other amazing organizations doing great work for moms and their babies.

Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I’ve ever received about motherhood? “Sleep when the baby sleeps.” To which I now add: “Also, drink coffee when the baby sleeps, eat chocolate when the baby sleeps, and maybe, just maybe, try to do something that isn’t related to the baby when the baby sleeps.”

Q: What Neighborhood do you live in?

I live in the one with the best tacos—which, honestly, isn’t that every neighborhood in San Diego?

What I love about my Neighborhood:

Honestly, best micro climate in San Diego….warm, sunny and a bit of breeze!

Please describe your ideal San Diego weekend:

My ideal weekend involves soaking up the sun, an early trip to the farmers market on Saturday, mass on Sunday, and, of course, indulging in some fresh donuts afterward. Perfection!

Q: Finally, what three words or phrases come to mind when you think of the word HOME?

Cozy, burning candles, and did someone feed Bella (our lab)?
